Useful Phone Codes & Meanings
Safety first: codes vary by manufacturer, model, carrier and software version. A code that works on one Android phone may do nothing on another. This guide intentionally excludes factory-reset, firmware-writing and engineering codes that can erase data or alter the phone. Never run an unknown code copied from social media.
Useful for eSIM checks
- *#06# — Device identifiers: commonly displays IMEI numbers and, on some eSIM phones, EID or IMEI2. It does not prove that an eSIM plan is installed or active, or that the phone is carrier-unlocked.
You can also find these safely in Settings. On iPhone: Settings → General → About. On Android: Settings → About phone → SIM status or Device identifiers.
Samsung diagnostic and information codes
- *#0*# — General Test Mode: on many Samsung Galaxy models, opens tests for display colours, touch screen, vibration, speakers, cameras and sensors.
- *#1234# — Software information: on supported Samsung models, displays firmware/software version information.
- *#0011# — Network service information: on supported Samsung models, displays technical mobile-network status. Do not change engineering settings.
- *#34971539# — Camera information: available on some Samsung models and software versions. Use it only to view information; do not choose firmware update/write options.
These are not universal Android codes. Carrier restrictions or security features may disable them. If a code does not open automatically, stop—do not add a Call button or try random variations.
Android testing menu
- *#*#4636#*#* — Testing information: available on some Android builds and may show phone, battery, usage or Wi-Fi information. It is not supported by every manufacturer. View-only use is recommended; changing radio settings can interrupt service.
Call-forwarding status codes
These GSM/MMI codes are carrier-dependent and may not work with every plan, Wi-Fi Calling service or phone:
- *#21# — check unconditional call-forwarding status.
- *#61# — check forwarding status when a call is not answered.
- *#62# — check forwarding status when the phone is unreachable.
- *#67# — check forwarding status when the line is busy.
- ##002# — request cancellation of all call forwarding on many GSM networks. Because this changes call routing, use it only if you intend to remove forwarding and your carrier documents support for it.
Codes deliberately excluded
Factory-reset codes such as *2767*3855# and similar “wipe” codes are not troubleshooting tools. On some older devices they may erase personal data without a normal confirmation screen. Firmware, USB, radio-band and system-dump codes are also excluded because incorrect use can disrupt cellular service or expose diagnostic data.
